As we reflect on the beginning of our community, 150 years ago, we thought it would be appropriate to have the town look like our forefathers. Over the past six months there have been some men that are changing in looks. We have heard that there are some wives that aren’t real happy either. These men are being good sports for a good cause and a good time.
If you have not yet joined the “BROTHERHOOD”, it’s not too late. You can still enter the contest up to judging time. Anyone registered in the contest can enter in one or all of the categories at the time of the competition. To enter the category of the longest beard you had to be clean shaven when the competition started in January. The categories for the beard contest are: fullest beard, best mustache, fullest beard and mustache, best goatee, best groomed, blackest, reddest, whitest, grayest, most colors, longest, best attempt, youngest and oldest participant, and who has had their beard the longest amount of time. The winner of each of these categories will be awarded $10.00 and then be a participant in the best overall category. The winner of that category will be awarded $150.00 for the grand prize.
To join the “BROTHERHOOD” you must purchase a button for $3.00, be a graduate of Iowa Valley High School, live or have lived in the Iowa Valley school district, or own a business in Marengo. Men who do not wish to join the “BROTHERHOOD” may be arrested and receive fines imposed by the kangaroo court during the celebration. The purchase of the shaving permit for $5.00 will allow the beardless gentlemen to be spared harassment by their “hairy” neighbors.
The contest will be held at 3:00 p.m. on July 3rd, 2009. This will be on the main stage. Come and join in on the fun and cheer on your favorite hairy man!
